Swoboda Inc, was established in 1856 by Edward Swoboda and headquartered in Los Angeles, California until it closed in 1979 when Edward retired. Swoboda selected his gemstones on buying trips to South America gemstones. Nancy Reagan, was known to have commissioned miniature cypress trees as gifts to governors for the Governor's Conference in 1966.
Nate Waxman joined the company in 1957 as a trainee and went on to design many of the companies pieces, interrupted only by three years of military servicein the early 60's. He played a pivotal role in the company, later becoming a partner and forged accounts with leading high end department stores to include Harrods, Saks,
Bloomingdale's and Neiman Marcus. Swoboda did not mark its pieces until 1966. A year before Edward retired, Nate formed his own company and continues to design and manufacture jewellery.
